The benefit was directed to customers who participated in the initiative, recycling about 1,600 tons of waste.
The Vale Luz project is part of the Energy Efficiency program of the company's distributors, regulated by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL). The initiative allows discounts on energy bills from the delivery of recyclable waste, such as plastics (PET bottles, PP, PE and bags), metals (aluminum and iron), papers (magazines, newspapers and cardboard), glass, electronics and vegetable oils.
" It is an interesting initiative because the more we recycle these materials, the more we reduce the need to produce them. So we have an energy savings at the end of this process when this waste is manufactured. When we recycle, we reuse the material, saving energy. This is what energy efficiency is all about: seeking alternatives to optimize energy use, anywhere in the production chain," says Ana Christina Mascarenhas, Superintendent of Energy Efficiency at Neoenergia.
The actions of the Vale Luz da Neoenergia project were already carried out in Bahia, Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Norte, and in 2022, the company began expanding to the coverage areas of Neoenergia Elektro, in the state of São Paulo. The company has made available post-consumer packaging collection machines (Returns Machine) in Campos do Jordão, Campinas, Guarujá, Rio Claro, Atibaia, Limeira, Mogi Guaçu and Caieiras.
All discarded material must be sanitized and contain the legible barcode. It is through this reading of the barcode that the machine identifies the material and counts the points (tricoins) to the user. To participate, each user must be registered in the Tricycle Loyalty Program, and can discard up to 25 packages per day, to convert the discount to the energy bill. If there is a drop greater than this number, the material will be collected and recycled, but will not count in the tricoins score.
