Neoenergia Coelba's new Operations Center brings together the distributor's operational intelligence in the same space

Neoenergia started the activities of the new Integrated Operations Center (IOC) at its distributor in Bahia. The project centralizes the technical service of Neoenergia Coelba, ensuring the same standard of service to all occurrences generated. In addition to operational integration, the IOC brings more technology for monitoring the electricity grid and customer service efficiency. The investment of R$ 6 million allowed to gather in 770m² the state-of-the-art technology used in large metropolises.

One of the advances of the new IOC is in the unified system, which allows real-time evaluation of the electricity grid that cuts the state, and which is projected on video wall of 14x2 m², and over 28 monitors of 55' inches, on the top floor of one of the buildings of Neoenergia Coelba,000, in Salvador.

To support monitoring, the company also modernized its model of field performance, which has a new territorial division, from localities. There are 45 territorial distribution units (UTD's), which include 415 municipalities in the concession area of the company.

The system ensures that occurrences are continuously evaluated with respect to the service capacity of system controllers. This allows focus on the supervision of the region for which they are responsible, monitoring and availability for any intervention. Among the field professionals and the administrative, there are more than 2,100 professionals working on three different scales for 24-hour care.

"In this new IOC we unify our operation and the management of the electrical system. Thus, we enable more reliability in the supply of energy to Bahians, who are guaranteed the same service, in any locality of thestate", says Luiz Antonio Ciarlini, CEO of Neoenergia Coelba.

In addition, in the same space is gathered the operational intelligence of the company, which ensures more efficiency in decision making. "This allows for faster action in the occurrences, and as a consequence a shorter interruption time to the public, when there is",says the operations manager of Neoenergia Coelba, Adriano Barros.

As part of crisis management, the IOC has a mirror structure, with the same technologies, in another location of the state kept confidential. This structure can be used in case of interventions in the main base.

Automation of the electricity grid

From the new IOC it is possible to operate all the technologies used in the operation. This is the case of self-healing, used for automation maneuvers in the electricity grid, and which allows to resume the power supply in an interrupted area with a maximum of 15 seconds. By detecting an interference, which can be caused by falling trees, climatic effects or animals, self-healing - from english "auto recomposition", automatically isolates the affected region and reconnects the network by another path, ensuring immediate return of supply.

In situations without self-healing, customers need to wait for the system to be re-established through the intervention of an on-site technical team. Automation from this technology allows the smallest number of customers to be impacted by an outage occurrence. This and other technologies used by Neoenergia are now connected to the IOC's integrated system, and contribute to faster and safer customer service.
