Neoenergia will be the first company in the electricity sector to contribute to the municipalities of the concession areas of its distributors in the immunization campaign against Covid-19. The company will make the donation of scientific refrigerators to store vaccines in 658 municipalities served by Coelba (BA), Celpe (PE), Cosern (RN) and Elektro (SP/MS). The initiative took into account cities with the lowest Municipal Human Development Indexes (MHDI) and is part of the Energy Efficiency Program (PEE) regulated by the National Energy Efficiency Agency (ANEEL). The donation of these equipments totals R$ 6 million, which is added to the other actions already carried out by the company aimed at combating the pandemic, such as the purchase of tests in partnership with Fiocruz and donation of respirators, an amount that already reaches R$ 20 million.

'At a time when the vaccination campaign is the way out to contain the Covid-19 pandemic, we support the municipalities most in need of our concession areas, which need the right refrigerators for the vaccination of the population safely. We reaffirm, with this initiative that had the full support and support of ANEEL, our commitment to bring more than energy to society', says The CEO of Neoenergia, Mario Ruiz-Tagle.

The new refrigerators will be destined to municipalities served by distributors in the Northeast that have MHDI up to 0.61 and, in São Paulo, with the index up to 0.74. 296 municipalities will benefit in coelba's concession area,136 in Pernambuco, 95 in Rio Grande do Norte and 131 in São Paulo.

Responsible for the management of immunization programs, the state governments of Bahia, Rio Grande do Norte and São Paulo, partners in the action, will each receive two refrigerators with a capacity of 280 liters and 420 liters, respectively. Seven 280-liter equipment will be delivered to the São Paulo Health Department.

The installation of each scientific cooler should inject into the electrical system a load of 89 kW and annual consumption of 781 MWh, which will be compensated by the collection, in each municipality, of two old refrigeration equipment and donation of efficient lamps to health posts, hospitals and to low-income residential consumers.

The scientific refrigerators have programmable and constant temperature between 2oC and 8oC, as well as alarms to warn in case of power interruption and rechargeable batteries to supply the cold in case of possible complications in the supply, with autonomy of up to 12 hours. The equipment has sensors and a remote remote alarm system, which makes phone calls if there is a temperature outof a temperature or the battery is at a low level.

The conservation chambers that will be given by Neoenergia are of national manufacture and have a capacity of 280 liters, enough to store about 18,000 doses of 0.5 ml.

SUSTAINABILITY

To receive the new equipment, the municipal and state governments must deliver old refrigerators and freezers to Neoenergia distributors, in the UTDs (acronym for Territorial Distribution Unit) of the companies. The company will remove substances such as CFC (chlorofluorocarbon) gases, which can contribute to the greenhouse effect, and make the equipment dispose correctly.

'By using as a strategy the receipt of old refrigeration equipment and not suitable for vaccine conservation, we are offsetting the 89 kW load increase. Neoenergia's initiative is of extreme social importance for the regions where we operate and is aligned with the group's commitments to combat climate change and combat energy waste,' emphasizes Ana Christina Macarenhas, Energy Efficiency Manager at Neoenergia.

LAMP CHANGE

The municipalities that will receive the new refrigerators for vaccines will also count on actions of changing lamps for LED models, more efficient. Over the course of a year and a half, about 25,000 lamp lamps and health units will be replaced and another 100,000 directly to the low-income population. With this, both municipalities and residents of these cities will be able to save on energy bills and adopt more sustainable habits.

This initiative is part of the Iberdrola group's response to Coronav írus.
