18 August 2014
On his first working day today (18 August 2014), the new Acting Chief Executive Officer of MTR Corporation, Mr Lincoln Leong, pledged to sharpen the focus on serving Hong Kong. He listed two major missions as his immediate priorities -- continuing to provide Hong Kong with a high quality railway service and delivering the five new railway projects in a safe and timely manner.
"Hong Kong is our home and all of our 16,000 staff here are absolutely dedicated to serving the Hong Kong community," said Mr Leong. "We understand the importance of reliable and comfortable train journeys for our passengers. I'm pleased to report that up to the end of July this year, our 2014 on-time performance continues to be maintained at 99.9%, which is a very high level internationally. But when a delay occurs, we are focusing on quick service recovery to minimise the inconvenience to our passengers."
To improve comfort levels, Mr Leong announced the Corporation will be launching a new round of train service enhancements with a total of 600 weekly train trips to be added to six of the busiest MTR lines starting from 29 August. (Details in Annex 1) The latest enhancement is double the number of train trips added in the first half of the year and brings the total number of train trips added since 2012 to over 2,000.
Seventy-seven of the new train services are being added to support the Early Bird Discount
Promotion Trial Programme (Details in Annex 2) which will be launched on 1 September.
"We hope that the new train services and the trial of the Early Bird Discount Promotion will help to ease some of the crowding during the busy morning peak period," said Mr Leong.
