Northern Ireland (NI) Water has awarded the water consulting business within infrastructure and business services group Mouchel an 18-month contract to deliver an Asset Inventory that will provide reliable, high-quality data on its above-ground assets.

NI Water is responsible for the supply and distribution of drinking water and the provision of sewerage services for approximately 780,000 domestic, agricultural and business customers in the region.

Improvements in data quality delivered by the Asset Inventory will enhance the efficiency of maintenance operations, improve customer service by reducing unnecessary risks to customer supply or water quality and contribute to environmental compliance by reducing risk of pollution incidents.

Mouchel staff will visit the majority of NI Water's above-ground facilities and capture asset data on each site.  The project will combine the extensive site programme alongside office-based asset management activities.  Field teams will align existing asset data with the NI Water Corporate Asset Register, collect missing data, tag assets and undertake condition assessments.  The data will be collated, processed and quality assured before it is uploaded to NI Water's live Asset Register.

Martin McIlwaine, NI Water's Head of Asset Management said: "NI Water is a customer-focused, but asset-based, organisation.  In order to deliver the maximum level of customer service at the lowest sustainable cost, it is important that NIW corporate systems are populated with accurate and comprehensive data.  This significant project complements a number of other data quality improvement initiatives underway across our organisation; it will help us to improve the quality of our asset data and increase our levels of customer service."

Mouchel's Regulated Industries Operating Group Director, Jamie Woods, commented: "This is a fantastic win for Mouchel in Ireland and our wider water consulting business.  The team in Holywood has operated successfully in NI for many years and this win provides new opportunities to work with NI Water."

Mouchel has worked with NI Water for over 20 years, with their main office located in Holywood from where the project will be delivered.
