Mitsui & Co., Ltd. ('Mitsui', Head Office: Tokyo, President and Chief Executive Officer: Tatsuo Yasunaga) has decided to join the Battery Association for Supply Chain ('BASC', Chairman: Isao Abe, Executive Officer at Sumitomo Metal Mining Co.). BASC is a new group being formed to strengthen international supply chain competitiveness associated with battery raw materials and parts and will be established as a general incorporated association on April 1, 2021.

Growth in market scale is expected for the battery industry to realize a decarbonized society and electrification in countries and regions worldwide. BASC will tackle issues including creation of international lithium standards and rulemaking to a battery ecosystem, and we believe it will contribute to enhancing Mitsui's business creation and industry competitiveness.

In the Medium-term Management Plan 2023, Mitsui set 'Sustainability management; Evolution of ESG' as one of its corporate strategies, and net-zero emissions as our vision for 2050. The creation of a battery supply chain is one concrete policy to realize our 2050 vision, and Mitsui will work together with BASC to realize a carbon-free society.
