Herman Miller Selected for RobecoSAM Sustainability Yearbook January 25, 2013

The RobecoSAM Group has selected Herman Miller, Inc., for inclusion in "The Sustainability Yearbook 2013" and has awarded Herman Miller both "Sector Leader" and "Gold Class" distinctions.  These distinctions recognize companies, within their respective industries, who are best prepared to seize the opportunities and manage the risks deriving from economic, environmental, and social developments.

The Sustainability Yearbook is the world's most comprehensive publication on corporate sustainability and has grown to become one of the leading reference guides to the world's sustainability leaders.  This year's 10th Anniversary edition spotlights the continued advancement of RobecoSAM's sustainability criteria to reflect the evolution of corporate sustainability practices and looks ahead to the criteria that are likely to determine tomorrow's sustainability leaders. In particular, the RobecoSAM experts go to the heart of the fundamental question of how companies can control their corporate responsibilities and reputational risk throughout their increasingly complex supply chains.  Based on this, RobecoSAM recently introduced an enhanced framework for assessing companies' approach to supply chain management.

The Sustainability Yearbook showcases the results from RobecoSAM's annual Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) consisting of an analysis of the sustainability performance of more than 2,000 companies. The CSA is an in-depth analysis featuring about 100 questions on economic, environmental and social issues with a focus on industry-specific criteria that have a material impact on companies' ability to generate long-term value.  In addition to a company's sustainability scores derived from the CSA, a qualitative screen based on RobecoSAMS's Media & Stakeholder Analysis (MS), which evaluates a company's response to critical sustainability issues that may arise during the year, is also applied to determine eligibility for inclusion in The Sustainability Yearbook. The CSA results serve as the basis for the construction of the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI). Herman Miller has been named to the DJSI annually since 2004.

"Inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and RobecoSAM Sustainability Yearbook is a testament to our employees' great work," said Gabe Wing, Director of Safety and Sustainability. "Herman Miller is committed to sustainable and responsible business practices in everything we do, whether in our local community or in the larger global footprint of our business."
