MEDICREA INTERNAT. : 2011 - Annual sales

The MEDICREA Group (FR0004178572 - ALMED), listed on Alternext by NYSE - Euronext Paris, a company specialized in the development of innovative surgical technologies for the treatment of spinal pathologies, announces its annual sales for the financial year to December 31st 2011.

Although they were slightly up on the previous quarter, sales for the 4th quarter of 2011 (4.1 million euros) were below the strong level of growth that characterizes the Group's development. October was the weakest month of the year, and activity has gradually improved since then.
The changes that took place within the US subsidiary's organization, which represents almost 50% of Group sales, affected the growth in sales development recorded thus far in the United States. "I am of course disappointed with our performance in 2011, particularly as we recorded very encouraging results over the first half of the year. However, in order to ensure the medium-term development of our activity on the world's largest spinal market, it was essential to restructure and expand our sales structure and to ask the teams in place to temporarily focus on recruiting and training additional sales representatives", says Denys SOURNAC, Chairman and CEO of MEDICREA.
The new US sales structure is now in place, with a much larger footprint. The groundwork carried out over the
4th quarter directly amongst high-potential new surgeons, and the actions undertaken amongst new distributors to increase the reach and density of the current network, should rapidly result in a return to growth levels at
least equivalent to those recorded over 4 consecutive years. "I anticipate an upturn in our activity from the 2nd

quarter of 2012, with a constant acceleration in sales throughout 2012", adds Denys SOURNAC.

The new products presented at the end of 2011 at the two main spinal surgery congresses were welcomed with strong interest. The Group is also pursuing the strengthening of its sales structures outside the United States, with the hiring of an additional export manager and the recruitment of two more sales staff for the French market.
"Along with the strengthening of our sales organization essentially focusing on spinal surgeons specializing in major and complex spinal deformities, in 2012 we are implementing discussions with major players from our sector of activity that could lead to the signing of strategic partnerships concerning one or several innovations of our product range'", concludes Denys SOURNAC.
