Lowe's Cos. on Thursday unveiled plans to hire more than 50,000 workers across its U.S. stores this spring and to pay another $80 million in bonuses to its hourly workers to recognize their efforts during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Mooresville, N.C., home-improvement retailer said it is filling seasonal positions, along with permanent full-time and part-time posts, as it prepares for its busiest season.

The company said it hired more than 90,000 workers into permanent roles over the past year.

Lowe's said the $80 million payout, which marks the seventh bonus or special payment it will make to hourly employees, brings its total commitment to associates, communities and store safety during the pandemic to nearly $1.3 billion.

As with prior bonuses, Lowe's said active full-time hourly workers at U.S. stores, distribution centers and call centers will each receive $300 on Feb. 5, while part-time and seasonal employees will receive $150.
