Lend Lease's Springfield Lakes community is about to launch a new tourist attraction focussed on getting families and couples actively involved in a series of free healthy-living activities.

The new Outdoor Adventures map will be launched with a major competition on the 14th of January where families and couples will be vying for prizes as they complete the circuit.

The initiative is the brainchild of Lend Lease Project Director at Springfield Lakes, Ian Murray. "We all need to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle and we have a lot to offer here at Springfield Lakes with 27 parks, lakes and activity centres.

"We thought that a series of nine walking and bike tracks, from easy to not so easy, would be a fun way for residents and non-residents to discover all the free attractions and activities here."

Each of the routes passes by Springfield Lake parks and attractions with various activities possible along the way from sailing or kayaking in the lakes to playing in one of the 27 parks on offer. Cyclists can also hire a bicycle, free of charge, from the Springfield Lakes Sales and Information Centre.

"It's all part of the lifestyle here at Springfield Lakes but we don't restrict the free activities to residents. Guests are just as welcome to come and spend the day here to try different experiences in an area that may be new to them, yet so close to Brisbane."

The competition, 'The Springfield Lakes Great Expedition' on January 14 will be free for families and couples. Each participant, or family group, will receive a map and a series of questions that can be answered thanks to clues provided. Each completed entry form will go into a barrel with numerous prizes on offer.

The day will also provide a unique opportunity for residents and guests to learn from a world class Olympic kayak paddler who is using the community's spectacular lakes to pass on her coaching skills. Amanda Rankin was a member of the Australian National Women's Kayaking team for a decade and competed at the 2004 Athens Olympics in the Women's K4 Crew and the Women's K1 500m.

Mr Murray said the lakes provide another dimension to the day. "We have a large number of families who are very active enjoying our parks and walking tracks.  This provides another option for the community to get out on the lake and enjoy the water."

The Springfield Lakes Great Expedition starts at 10:30 with free registration from 10am. Kayaking and sailing on the Lake runs at Regatta Lake from 9.00am - 1:00pm.  The Summer Daze Food Festival continues every day at the Lakeside Café and the Fashion Bazaar in Lakeside Cafe takes place from 10am to 2pm followed by Children's story time from 3 to 4pm (RSVP's required).
