CHICAGO (AP) _ Kemper Corp. (KMPR) on Monday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $105.8 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Chicago-based company said it had a loss of $1.66 per share. Losses, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were $2.05 per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 44 cents per share.

The insurance holding company posted revenue of $1.49 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $1.47 billion, topping Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.45 billion.

For the year, the company reported a loss of $120.5 million, or $1.87 per share, swinging to a loss in the period. Revenue was reported as $5.68 billion.
