Hon’ble Chairperson, Co-ordination Committee and JMM Supremo, Shri Shibu Soren; Hon'ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Shri Arjun Munda, dedicate to the Nation the second unit of the 6  Million Tonne Steel Plant (0.6 Million Tonne Bar Mill) of Jindal Steel  & Power Ltd. (JSPL) at Patratu

Patratu (Jharkhand), Sept 28 2011: Hon’ble Chairperson, Co-ordination Committee, Shri Shibu Soren and Hon'ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Shri Arjun Munda today dedicated to the Nation the second unit of the 6 Million Tonne Steel Plant (the 1.2 MTPA Bar Mill) of Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) at Patratu, in Ramgarh district, at a glittering ceremony held here.

Among those present on the occasion were Hon’ble Deputy Chief Ministers of the state, Shri Sudesh Mahto and Shri C. P. Singh, Hon’ble Speaker, Jharkhand Assembly and. Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were Mr. Saurabh Narayan Singh, MLA, Hazaribag, Mr. Sanjay Yadav, MLA, Godda.

Shri Naveen Jindal, Parliamentarian and Chairman and Managing Director, JSPL welcomed the chief guests and other guests of honour.

Commenting on the occasion, Shri Jindal said, “We are happy to be a partner in the progress of Jharkhand. With the JSPL Bar Mill being dedicated to the Nation, an increase in industrial development in the state of Jharkhand is going to usher in a new dawn of progress and growth. The plant will provide gainful employment in the state and will also help in the economic and infrastructure development of the region.”

Further adding, Mr. Jindal said, “Like in the other states, improving infrastructure, women’s empowerment, population stabilisation, aiming for a hunger free society, promotion of sports at all levels, advocating a clean environment and providing health and educational facilities in and around our plants has been a motto of our CSR activities in Jharkhand as well.”

Production at the bar mill commenced recently. It is designed to produce TMT bars from 8 mm to 40 mm, angles from 50x50 mm to 90x90 mm and plain rounds (forging grade) and RCs. The TMT bars from the mill will be utilized in housing and infrastructural development projects in the state of Jharkhand. The bar mill will provide direct and indirect employment to about 1,000 people of the region.

The first unit of the 6 MTPA integrated steel plant at Patratu, the 0.6 million tonne wire rod mill was commissioned in early 2010. Both the mills form an integral part of our 6 MTPA integrated steel plant being set up at Patratu with an investment of over Rs 25,000 crores which upon successful completion will provide direct and indirect employment to more than 25,000 people.  The steel plant is expected to be fully commissioned in the second half of 2015.

Other projects by JSPL in Jharkhand include setting up of an integrated steel plant of 5 MTPA at Asanboni in East Singhbhum district which is expected to be commissioned by 2016. Also on the anvil are power plants of 1320 MW each at Dumka and Godda. 

While Jindal Power Limited (JPL), a subsidiary of JSPL, is coming up with a 2640 MW plant in Simdega the state, a group company is also setting up a 1320 MW plant in the state.

The total investment outlay for Jharkhand is over Rs 1,00,000 crore which upon successfully commissioning will provide direct and indirect employment to more than 75,000 persons. This is the single largest investment in Jharkhand which is taking shape on the ground.
