Search for four employees at Impala Rustenburg - UpdateImplats regrets to announce that all four employees that were missing, following an underground fire at Impala's 14 Shaft on 22 January 2016, have passed away. Impala Platinum management, the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) and Association of Mine Workers and Construction Union (AMCU) have been informed by mine rescue teams that the four employees were overcome by fumes while they were trying to find their way to safety.
Implats' Board of Directors and management have expressed their sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.
Implats' CEO, Terence Goodlace commented: "Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family and friends of the deceased at this most difficult time. We are in contact with the families and together with representatives from the DMR and AMCU leadership, will continue to provide all the necessary support. I would also like to thank all members of the mine search and rescue teams who were involved in the operation today and express my appreciation to the other mines and industry for their messages of support and condolences".
