Hindustan Unilever Limited reported unaudited standalone earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended December 31, 2016. For the quarter, the company reported sales from operation of INR 81,244.8 million compared to INR 82,265.5 million a year ago. Profit from operations before other income, finance costs and exceptional items was INR 12,552.4 million compared to INR 13,480.2 million a year ago. Profit from ordinary activates before tax was INR 14,861.7 million compared to INR 14,089.9 million a year ago. Net profit was INR 10,379.3 million or INR 4.79 per diluted share before and after extraordinary items (not annualized) compared to INR 9,716.6 million or INR 4.49 per diluted share before and after extraordinary items (not annualized) a year ago. EBITDA was INR 13,554.4 million against INR 14,301.8 million a year ago.
For the nine months, the company reported sales from operation of INR 251,219.8 million compared to INR 247,366.8 million a year ago. Profit from operations before other income, finance costs and exceptional items was INR 41,079.6 million compared to INR 40,456.0 million a year ago. Profit from ordinary activates before tax was INR 47,774.3 million compared to INR 44,123.1 million a year ago. Net profit was INR 33,074.3 million or INR 15.28 per basic and diluted share before and after extraordinary items (not annualized) compared to INR 30,229.9 million or INR 13.97 per basic and diluted share before and after extraordinary items (not annualized) a year ago.
Hindustan Unilever specializes in manufacturing and marketing of cleaning and food products. Net sales break down by family of products as follows:
- personal care products (46%): hair and skin care products, dental and deodorant products (brands Aviance, Dove, Sunsilk, Lux, Pond's, Axe, Rexona, Close Up, etc.);
- house cleaning and laundry care products (33.9%): soaps, dishwashing liquids, detergents, stain removers and cleaners (brands Active Wheel, Comfort, Cif, Sunlight, Vim, etc.);
- food products and beverages (18.8%): culinary products, sauces, oils and margarines (brands Knorr, Kissan, Annapurna, etc.), ice creams (Kwality Wall's), teas and coffees (brands 3 Roses, Red Label, Lipton, Bru, Taj Mahal);
- other (1.3%).
At the end of March 2019, the group had 28 production sites in India.
India accounts for 96% of net sales.
