Health-care company stocks rose on strength in some drug makers and insurance providers.

Shares of Gilead Sciences gained after the company said one of its investigational drugs had for the first time shown 100% effectiveness in preventing HIV in a study. The results increased the chances of approval after a second study is completed by early 2025, analysts said.

Eli Lilly is stepping up its campaign against fake and counterfeit weight-loss drugs with more lawsuits against sellers of unapproved products that market themselves as Mounjaro and Zepbound.
