Gazprom Neft' : Mars Khasanov, Head of Gazprom Neft’s Technology Directorate, is appointed Co-Chairman of the Russian Branch of the Society of Petroleum Engineers

Following a decision by the Board of Directors of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE, the world's leading organisation for oil and gas engineers)*, Mars Khasanov**, Head of Gazprom Neft's Technology Directorate and General Director of its Joint Scientific and Technology Centre, has been appointed the Russian Branch Co-Chairman.

The SPE is the world's leading non-commercial professional organisation for oil and gas industry technical specialists. The society's core objective is the accumulation and dissemination of knowledge in oil exploration and production, and the development of related technologies. Mars Khasanov was one of the initiators behind the North-West section of the SPE, operating in St Petersburg. Gazprom Neft was honoured by the organisation in 2016 in recognition of its active involvement in the SPE activities at the corporate level.

The SPE library and the discussions lead by its representatives at conferences and via specialist portals, help find answers to numerous questions as well as helping in formulating solutions for the most pertinent problems in oil and gas engineering today.'

His research is predominantly focused on the modelling, control and management of non-linear multi-phase fluid flows, and the development of computer technologies for monitoring and project management in oilfield development. He has been responsible for identifying consistencies in transition to chaos in the movement of quasi-viscous (non-Newtonian) media, and spatial and temporary fractality in oil production processes. Almost all of the modelling methodologies and solutions developed by Mars Khasanov and his students are in active use throughout major Russian oil companies.

* Mars Khasanov is a PhD, professor, an Honoured Academic of the Republic of Bashkortostan, and an Honoured Scientist of the Russian Federation, specialising in fluid mechanics (liquids and gases), applied mathematics, and oilfield development. He has authored more than 200 scientific papers and theses, and secured more than 60 industrial patents. He has developed a design methodology for the management and monitoring of oil and gas production processes, leading to a 'strata - well - installation - external infrastructure' system within a single integrated model.

** The SPE has offices in Moscow, Dallas, Houston, London, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur. Its membership totals more than 168,000 (including more than 68,000 students). The SPE's knowledge base - includes more than 200,000 articles on various aspects of oil and gas exploration and production, many of which have been contributed by employees of Gazprom Neft.
