To deliver positive news Endesa Chile's CEO, Valter Moro, met this morning with the Superintendent of Environment, Christian Franz. The executive confirmed that the new advanced technology 'Johnson' filters have been operational since October 27 in the Bocamina II thermoelectric plant, equipment that almost completely prevents aquatic organisms from entering the plant's cooling system.

In this regard, Valter Moro highlights the efforts made by the workers of the plant operating in Coronel and the contracting firms in charge of the execution of the works, to advance the implementation of the filters, which will have a 3 mm sieve (strainer), the smallest that exists in the Bay of Colonel. 'We are proud to deliver this good news since we know that it responds to a request from the authorities, but also to a commitment we made with the community. The new Bocamina has put sustainability of its operations as the central aspect of its activities,' the executive said.

Originally, the equipment had to be operating by late December, but a work plan was designed that involved the commitment of the entire team of the company to accomplish this goal. The Johnson filters significantly improve the environmental standards of Bocamina II, completing one of the commitments made by Endesa Chile and established in the RCA, in addition to the resolution of the Superintendence of the Environment (SMA) in compliance with the Supreme Court ruling indicating that said entity should ensure that the solution implemented by Endesa Chile be a guarantor of the protection of the marine environment. All technical and environmental improvements committed will involve an investment of more than US$190 million.

The New filters will also be implemented in the cooling system at Bocamina I, and are expected to be fully operational during the first quarter of 2016.

The Bocamina thermoelectric complex has two generating units with a total capacity of 478 MW. It restarted its commercial operations in July this year, after promising important environmental improvements and a social support plan to the district, all of which is taking place.
