Siderperú reported earnings results for the first quarter of 2014. For the quarter, the company posted a profit on higher sales and lower sales costs. The company reported a PEN 16 million net income for the period, compared with an PEN 11.9 million loss a year earlier.

Sales for the quarter climbed 3.5% to PEN 411 million. The company which replaced diesel with natural gas at its steel mill, cut sales costs by 3.8% to PEN 360 million. The company said it pared its debt to PEN 533 million from PEN 545 million in the previous quarter.

The company's exports dropped 79.3% to PEN 3 million, while the company increased local steel sales by 6.7% to PEN 408 million.
