SEATTLE, Jan. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its ongoing commitment to improve the health and well-being of seniors, employees at 482 Emeritus Senior Living communities across the country hit the streets to support the Alzheimer's Association's Walk to End Alzheimer's. In addition to hosting hundreds of fundraisers throughout the nation, nearly 3,600 employees, family members and residents took part in walks throughout the past year.

The Alzheimer's Association recently released their final 2013 fundraising numbers from the walk. As a 2013 Platinum Level national team, Emeritus raised more than $550,000, exceeding last year's total. The Walk to End Alzheimer's helps the Alzheimer's Association's mission to build awareness and fund care, support and research.

More than 5.2 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease - a number that is projected to nearly triple by mid-century.

"As a company that is passionately committed to enriching the lives of seniors and their families, we believe it's vital to assist with efforts to provide education, support and resources to families caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's," said Granger Cobb, Emeritus Senior Living President and CEO. "We see the effects of Alzheimer's on our residents every day, so we understand the importance of raising money to help these brave individuals. That's why we're pleased to support the Walk to End Alzheimer's. Our dedicated employees have spent countless hours raising funds for this cause. We hope these efforts help the Alzheimer's Association as they search for a cure and continue to provide valuable support services to this growing population."
