Anthem Inc. Wednesday said it expects its adjusted profit to be higher in 2022.
The health insurer forecast adjusted earnings of at least $28.25 a share this year, compared with adjusted earnings of $25.98 a share in 2021. Analysts polled by FactSet were forecasting 2022 adjusted earnings of $28.59 a share.
Medical membership will be in a range of 45.6 million to 46.2 million this year, Anthem forecast.
The company projected operating revenue of $152 billion, including premium revenue of $130 billion. The benefit-expense ratio, a measure of the proportion of premiums paid out in healthcare costs, will be about 88% plus or minus 0.5 percentage points, Anthem estimated.
Shares were down 2.6% in premarket trading.
