Eaton Corporation Plc has introduced the Cooper Power series RFN-1200 wireless interface device for use in Distribution Automation, or DA, applications. The RFN-1200 device is an extension to Eaton's Smart Grid network offering. Providing two-way automated communication between Eaton's Yukon software platform and a down line control or device, utility users can gather remote device data or initiate controls, utilizing DNP 3.0 protocol.

This flexible interface device easily connects with a variety of DA solutions, including capacitor bank, recloser and voltage regulator controls across Eaton's RF Mesh Smart Grid network. Eaton's solution provides utilities a single Smart Grid platform that enables end of line voltage monitoring, conservation voltage reduction (CVR), and Volt/VAR Optimization (VVO) applications. The platform securely controls Smart Grid operations across one network providing ease of use and simplified service for utility customers.

In helping the Smart Grid platform operate more cost effectively, the RFN-1200 device can also operate as a DA Network First solution for a utility's DA needs, allowing for AMI and DR to be added at a later date.
