DRS Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: DRS) announced today that it received a $6.2 million contract from the U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center in Natick, Massachusetts, to provide hundreds of their small-scale Joint Service Transportable Decontamination Systems (JSTDS-SS).

The work for this award will be performed by the company's DRS Sustainment Systems business unit in St. Louis, Missouri. DRS is scheduled to begin delivering the decontamination systems this December with completion expected in August 2008.

This award is part of a five-year Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract DRS has with the soldier systems center. This is the fifth award DRS has received via this contract since August 2006 and the total contract value to date is $14.4 million.

The JSTDS-SS is a lightweight (560 pounds/255 kilograms) and transportable decontamination system capable of using water from any source ? fresh, still, or saltwater ? and can be used to decontaminate vehicles, soldiers, shower facilities, laundries, and field hospitals. DRS also will provide the system's accompanying accessories, spare kits, 3,000-gallon water tanks, and decontamination showers. The system's accessories include the DF-200 dual intake device to apply decontamination solutions, foam nozzles, an undercarriage wand to reach beneath vehicles, and a 15-person decontamination shower.

?Because the American military is required to thoroughly clean its material and gear before bringing it back to the United States, DRS anticipates that this small scale decontamination system will be used extensively, and for quite some time,? said Thomas G. Cornwell, president of DRS' Sustainment Systems Segment. ?For the next four years of this ID/IQ contract DRS will be hand-in-hand with the U.S. Army to help ensure that all of its equipment ? especially those materials exposed to the harsh and sandy environment of Southwest Asia ? is clean and operating correctly.?
