Delta Galil Industries : Another successful collaboration with Shenkar College

Delta Galil is proud to partner once again with Shenkar College of Engineering and Design for the Active Textile workshop, a new and unique program developed in cooperation with Delta Galil and the Textile Design department at Shenkar College. The course was mentored by Tali Attias, Head Designer of the Seamfree Division and Liron Bilsky, Design and Innovation Director of the Socks Division, together with Dana Benshalom, the advisor and instructor from Shenkar.

Outside the classroom, the students visited the research center in Carmiel and gained first hand experience and knowledge of the latest in textile production, development and design. The final projects were presented at the final course meeting and evaluation; each project is both a product, either a material or a design, and the story of the research process behind it. Each project was focused on a female athlete from a specific sport, from Ronda Rousey the modern MMA fighter to Martha Graham the legendary dancer and choreographer, representing a wide variety of female athletes and female figures in the world of sports.

To start the process the students identified a need or problem not addressed by the market and tried to come up with solutions that can meet the various demands and requirements of the athletes. Projects such as the study of breathing dry-fit intimates, triple-sided garments designed for multiple uses and even a special 3D pattern cut material, meant to show each movement of the body with precision, dedicated to the learning of correct moves and poses by dancers.

'We wanted to show students the reality of the industry today, introduce them to the latest in textile technology and innovation.' Says Liron Bilsky, Design and Innovation Director of the Socks division at Delta Galil.

'That is exactly why we initiated this program together with the Textile Design department at Shenkar College. Delta Galil, as industry leaders ourselves, is in a unique position to share our knowledge and our tools with the future generation of innovators. We wanted to give them the chance to go through a full cycle of learning the material, study it, and help them come up with new solutions and ideas. It was really surprising to see of how professional the students were, learning from us and implementing that understanding into their products. We were very impressed with the results they achieved in such a short time.'

The course went beyond just design, as the students were introduced to knowledge and processed from the worlds of fashion and active wear like Bio-Mechanics and Bio-Mimicry, learning the body and its movement, cutting-edge weaving methods and more. To gain insight into the physical side the students also consulted with physical therapists and trainers from each field, exploring and researching topics such as the use of Kinesio Tape and the mapping of muscles, new techniques or the use of advanced weaving technologies to create specialized materials.

This Active Textile course was made possible with the support of Delta Galil, sharing knowledge and resources with young designers and innovators and helping to shape the future of the industry as a whole, true to the company spirit and a natural element of its continued investment in research and the advancement of the field. It stands as a singular opportunity where industry and academia join forces to advance a growing and ever changing field, introducing technologies to theory and developing new ideas that might shape the world of active design and fashion.
