MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ Ceridian HCM Holding Inc. (CDAY) on Wednesday reported a loss of $20.9 million in its third quarter.

The Minneapolis-based company said it had a loss of 14 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 5 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 3 cents per share.

The provider of human-resources software and services posted revenue of $257.2 million in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $253.7 million.

Ceridian shares have climbed 20% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $128.21, an increase of 47% in the last 12 months.
