BROOKINGS, S.D. - Jan. 3, 2012 - San Jose Sharks fans and
attendees of the many other events held at HP Pavilion in
San Jose are getting an even more entertaining and
informative experience with the addition of new display
technology inside the venue.
Daktronics Inc. (Nasdaq - DAKT) delivered two significant
new components to their existing digital display system.
The first component is a network of 16 double-sided pendant
displays, , positioned throughout the concourses. The
second component is a pair of , mounted within the
dasherboards. The new displays are integrated into the
existing Daktronics display system through Daktronics .
"We are very pleased and excited to add these two
noteworthy enhancements to our digital media network inside
the building," said Rich Sotelo, Vice President of Building
Operations. "We have worked with Daktronics and their
systems since 2003 when our exterior marquee was installed,
and added more Daktronics technology inside the venue in
2007, 2010 and again this year. The power of the system is
unmatched in the industry, taking advantage of multiple
technologies and their Show Control System to make game day
presentations all they can be, showing high definition
video, real time statistics, and moments of exclusivity.
All these displays working together, in sync, throughout
the building, provide a truly powerful presentation."
Each of the 16 pendant displays is comprised of two faces
or video walls. Each face is made of six 46" LCD HD
screens, mounted in a two by three landscape configuration.
The LCD displays feature ultra-thin bezels making the video
walls virtually seamless. The pendant displays are
positioned in stainless steel structures that match the
architectural look and feel of the facility. The active
area in each of the 32 video walls measures approximately
four feet high by 10 feet wide. Each video wall can be
controlled independently, in groups, or with the same
content as the other 31 video walls.
Two of the highest resolution digital dasherboards have
also been added to the display network. Each display
measures approximately 2 feet 6 inches high by 9 feet wide,
with lines of surface-mount LEDs on 6mm spacing. These
displays, two of only a handful of such displays in NHL
facilities, are mounted in the existing dasherboard,
protected with a polycarbonate faceplate.
The new equipment was added to the existing display system,
which includes a unique centerhung scoreboard that includes
four primary video screens and three digital LED rings, a
740 feet long digital ribbon board circling the seating
bowl, seven additional LED displays within the seating
bowl, and a digital marquee outside the building.
The solution to the challenge of controlling such a broad
and diverse network of digital displays is Daktronics Show
Control System. This unified event control system operates
both LED and LCD displays, delivering content via the
venue's existing fiberoptic and RF networks and newer IP
infrastructure.
"Daktronics has delivered the pendant and dasherboard
displays and integrated them into our existing system with
relative ease," said Greg Carrolan, Facilities Technical
Director at the HP Pavilion. "We appreciate their expertise
during the procurement, installation and commissioning of
the system. Our operations staff appreciates the features
and usability of Show Control. It is providing
significantly better operational efficiency for our game
day staff."
One of the many powerful features of the Show Control
System is its ability to deliver moments of exclusivity
(MoX) to all the displays within the digital media network,
synchronizing content on all displays simultaneously to
highlight a single message or sponsor. Operators have the
ability to override content on any or all LED or LCD
displays in the venue to show a sponsor's logo or
advertisement guaranteeing venue-wide exposure and greater
value for corporate partners and increased revenue
opportunities for the property and its tenants.
The Show Control System also takes advantage of the
company's industry leading data integration capabilities to
present real time sports statistics on displays and deliver
prices and other information on digital menu boards. The
Daktronics system enables users to connect to a complete
collection of news wires, databases and scoring devices to
instantly present up-to-the-minute scores, statistics, news
and information to multiple IPTV channels. Different
channels can offer different information simultaneously
from live video to data focused for fantasy leagues.
A single live video image can be mapped over the six screen
pendant configuration, or the displays can be zoned to show
live video, recorded video, game information, in-game and
fantasy stats, corporate sponsors, and other information in
multiple zones.
