Barcelona, 29 December 2021. Cellnex has signed an agreement with UNICEF Spain designed to facilitate equitable access to the COVID-19 vaccine in low- and middle-income countries through the COVAX Facility.

The COVAX Facility is co-led by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Global Alliance for Vaccination (GAVI), and the Coalition for Innovations in Preparedness for Epidemics (CEPI) with UNICEF as a key partner in its implementation as an unprecedented global logistics and health operation. In view of its role as the world's major vaccine supplier, UNICEF has been designated to organise the acquisition, transport and distribution of vaccines, tests and treatments, to low-income and lower-middle-income countries.

A global commitment to the pandemic

In response to the global COVID-19 crisis, and as part of its social commitment, Cellnex is promoting directly and through its Foundation several health and social initiatives included in the Cellnex Covid Relief Initiative contingency plan, a fund endowed with €10 million that it launched in 2020 to work with national and international organisations and projects that help minimise the health, economic and social impact of the pandemic.

This initiative integrates social and health aid projects implemented in all the countries where the telecommunications company operates.

Lluís Deulofeu, senior advisor at Cellnex and president of its Foundation, said that "to overcome this global health crisis it is essential that the vaccine reaches everyone. Accordingly, we consider that the COVAX Facility is a very worthwhile initiative that will provide a differential boost to achieve immunity, also in low- and lower-middle-income countries, allowing us all to return to normality together. Cellnex facilitates access to connectivity, and through the Foundation's cooperation with UNICEF we also want to facilitate access to vaccines".
