Virtual System Platform has been named a winner in the
EE Times and EDN 2012 UBM
Electronics ACE Awards in the Software Ultimate
Products category. The awards program honors the people and
companies behind the technologies and products that are
changing the world of electronics.
The winners were announced at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, March 27 at The Fairmont San Jose, during DESIGN West, a new UBM Electronics conference and expo building on the rich foundation of training, education and products available at ESC, combined with popular summits and new event launches in one venue for the first time.
"The growing importance of software and continuing end device sophistication, driven by mobility, video and cloud applications, make it difficult for customers to deliver new products within tight market windows," said Nimish Modi, senior vice president, System and Software Realization Group, Cadence. "It was with this challenge in mind that we developed the Cadence Virtual System Platform. It allows customers to create a virtual prototype of a new device months before actual silicon is available, enabling them to start software development much earlier in the development cycle, and get end products to market six to nine months earlier."
Part of the Cadence System Development Suite, the Virtual System Platform enables pre-RTL software design, verification, and system analysis before committing to hardware design. It automates the process of creating a virtual prototype, debugging software, and deploying the virtual prototype to the software team-allowing software development to begin months earlier and preventing schedule slips in prototype delivery. The Virtual System Platform also enables transaction-level model (TLM)-aware hardware/software debugging with complete visibility and controllability, and supports mixed TLM/RTL simulation with the Incisive Verification Platform, as well as co-verification with the Palladium XP Verification Computing Platform.

A panel of EE Times editors narrowed down the entries to five finalists in each category, based on the criteria set forth in an online submission form. Winners are determined from among the finalists by a panel of independent judges, including Robin B. Frantz, Principal Fellow, Texas Instruments, Inc.; Lucio Lanza, Managing Director, Lanzatech Ventures; John Mashey, Consultant, Techviser; Dennis Monticelli, Chief Technologist and Fellow, National Semiconductor; Martin Reynolds, Dataquest; George M. Scalise, President, Semiconductor Industry Association; Naveed Sherwani, President & CEO, Open Silicon; and Nick Tredennick, Editor, Gilder Technology Report. Judging took place from November 1, 2011-January 6, 2012.
