BT announces that Etc., its startup and digital incubation arm, will power its first electric vehicle charging unit built from a street cabinet traditionally used to store broadband and telephone cables.

The announcement marks the first stage in the roll-out of new technical trials, exploring the possibility of upgrading up to 60,000 cabinets to help meet the government's sustainability targets and decarbonize the UK's transport system.

According to BT, this pilot project marks 'an important milestone in the journey towards carbo-neutrality'.

Etc. has announced its first installation site in East Lothian, Scotland, and further pilots will be rolled out across the UK in the coming months.
