ArcelorMittal (MT) is set to build its first desalination plant in Brazil to address the unexpected water requirements at its facility in the eastern state of Espirito Santo, Reuters reported, citing an interview with senior company executives. The purpose of the desalination plant is to reduce ArcelorMittal's dependence on state water utility Cesan, and to avoid production cuts at times of water crises that the state suffered in 2015 and 2016. The planned investment is about BRL 50 million Brazilian or about $13.3 million. The plant will be the first one in Brazil to use only seawater, and will use reverse osmosis technology.
