Apple has announced a striking but useful new feature that will be available on iPhones starting on iOS 18. It involves a feature that lets you record phone calls and possibly transcribe them into Notes.

What preceded it. Apple presented some innovations at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). For one, it's about iOS 18, the new version of its mobile operating system. There is also Apple Intelligence, its version of artificial intelligence for its own devices such as the iPhone.

  • The latter does come some on recent iPhones, iPads and Macs.

Recording phone calls

One of these new features in iOS is having phone calls recorded. In doing so, as you make a call, you will see a bar showing that you are recording a call. Everyone you call with will also immediately be notified that the call is being recorded. This way, there is no privacy issue.

  • The recorded conversation is then saved in the Notes app.

Unsubscribe: In Notes, you can immediately have that conversation transcribed as well.

  • The latter feature, however, is only available in English, Spanish, German, French, Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese and Portuguese for now.

But: Because this feature to record and transcribe conversations is part of Apple Intelligence, you will need to have an iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max to take advantage of it. Users with such an iPhone will get this feature later this year with the launch of iOS 18.
