Apple has still approved the iOS version of the Epic Games Store for the EU, albeit under a great deal of pressure as Epic Games kicked around a lot again.

At issue was a digital game store that Apple initially said would be too similar to the App Store.

Epic Games went to the European Commission, which declined to comment on the company's statements to Reuters.

Things have not been going well between Apple and Epic for years, but EU pressure has forced Apple to allow alternative app stores on its platforms. In February, Epic Games regained the developer account of Epic Games Sweden, but a month later it was removed again because Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney criticized the new App Store policy. Incidentally, Epic Games' Fortnite app had already been approved.

Earlier this year, the European Commission fined Apple 1.84 billion euros for abuse of power in music services. It also threatened a new fine for abuse of power with its App Store.

Apple still has a chance to respond to the Commission's conclusions and make changes. That may have been the deciding factor with Epic.
