That's according to an internal note seen by Reuters, which said impacted staff at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios in the Americas will be notified by the end of the day and in most other regions by the end of the week.

Last year, the tech giant cut more than 27,000 jobs as part of a wave of U.S. tech layoffs after the industry hired heavily during the pandemic.

Amazon also spent aggressively in 2022, closing its $8.5 billion deal for MGM and paying around $465 million on the first season of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" on Prime Video.

After widespread job cuts in recent years, many companies are now targeting select projects and divisions in 2024.

According to a media report on Tuesday, Amazon's Twitch service is set to lay off 500 employees, or about 35% of its workforce.

Its shares, which surged more than 80% last year, were up 1.5% in afternoon trading.
