MADISON, Wis., Jan. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Alliant Energy's Wisconsin utility has formally begun the process of evaluating future options for the Nelson Dewey Generating Station site in Cassville, Wis. Today, the company issued a solicitation of interest (SOI) document to seek qualified parties who want to acquire the up to 130-acre Nelson Dewey site. The eventual purchaser would gain title to the property after the power plant is decommissioned and other required regulatory actions are taken at the site.

"While Alliant Energy has received several informal inquiries regarding the reuse of the property since we announced the plant's retirement, it's now time to start the formal process of finding a new owner," said Maria Lauck, Alliant Energy's Regional Director of Generation Operations. "Finding a buyer who will reuse the site in a way that has a positive impact for the community is important to us and provides the most benefit for all our customers."

Alliant Energy is encouraging SOI respondents to outline a future site use that places a priority on quality jobs and tax base, and generates direct and indirect spending within the area. The Nelson Dewey property is located on the banks of the Mississippi River. The site is primarily zoned industrial and includes a barge unloading dock and Burlington Northern Santa Fe double track rail nearby.

In July 2012, Alliant Energy announced its plans to retire the Nelson Dewey Generating Station by December 31, 2015. The coal-fired plant has been in operation for over 50 years.
