French "greentech" Afyren announced on Tuesday that it had passed the milestone of two million hours of laboratory fermentation, with a view to identifying the raw materials needed to support its industrial expansion.

Since the company was founded 12 years ago, its R&D teams, made up of chemists and biologists, have carried out tests on more than 300 substrates in the food and agriculture industries.

The company points out that these tests have enabled it to qualify 60 biomass families that could be transformed on an industrial scale into 100% biosourced molecules.

A recent partnership with Suez should even pave the way for the recovery of household organic waste.

Afyren - whose motto is 'nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed' - stresses that its portfolio currently comprises around ten projects aimed at developing new products and circular value chains with its partners.
