The Canadian dollar strengthened against the greenback on Tuesday, and the yield on benchmark government debt climbed. The loonie was trading 0.1% higher at C$1.3719 to the greenback, or 72.89 U.S. cents, after trading in a range of 1.3717 to 1.3755. Canadian government 10-year bond yields rose 9 basis points to 3.597%. The yield on similar U.S. government benchmark debt fell to 4.4356%. U.S. August crude futures rose 93 cents to $84.31 a barrel on Tuesday.
