My name is Yesha Vora. My early acquaintance to computer engineering happened when I was handed off a book called 'Learning C' by my school teacher. I pursued a Bachelor's degree in computer engineering from my hometown in India and completed my Masters in the United States. During my Masters program at San Jose State University, I realized that Software Quality Testing is an essential part of the software lifecycle and decided to build my career in the Quality Engineering field.

At that time, I came to know of Hortonworks to be the leading Big Data software company. I researched about the company further and was very much inspired by the initiatives and the work done by Hortonworks. I joined Hortonworks as a Software Quality Engineer at its early stage. At that time, It was a small company with ~150 employees and we were working on shipping Hadoop 1.x release. The journey at Hortonworks from Hadoop 1.x to Hadoop 3.x has been incredible. With my experience, I am further convinced that perception and acceptance of a software product is driven most by it's consistent quality.

Working at Hortonworks has allowed me to rise as an individual contributor. Here, I have had access to role models, career advice, and a great network who still supports my development to date. 'Pixie-dust' is one of the recent initiatives in our entire organization which focuses on enhancing current infrastructure to support faster release. I got the opportunity and necessary guidance to design and develop a framework which can perform faster test execution. During this initiative, we were asked to reduce the unit test execution time from hours to minutes. The team work to bring up a dynamic and smart infrastructure which can expand and shrink as per user need was commendable.

Hortonworks has been a great supporter for women in tech. It hosts a lunch called'Women in Big Data' at DataWorks Summitwhere we get the chance to interact with leading female professionals and share our insights. Managers at Hortonworks makes a conscious effort to encourage all women to grow in the Tech field by giving them a platform to make an impactful change. I am glad to be at a workplace where skill development for a woman is given significant importance.
