* Wheat off four-month low as Egypt, Algeria call import
tenders
* Soybeans steady after touching lowest since October 2020
* Corn also regains ground as crop rating misses
expectations

       PARIS/SINGAPORE, July 16 (Reuters) - Chicago wheat
futures steadied on Tuesday after a slide to a four-month low as
the return of major importers Egypt and Algeria helped to stem
supply pressure from northern hemisphere harvests.
Soybean prices edged higher after touching their lowest in
almost four years while corn steadied after U.S. crop ratings
failed to show the improvement expected by analysts.
The most active wheat contract on the Chicago Board of
Trade (CBOT) was up 0.1% at $5.33 a bushel after initially
extending Monday's fall to touch its lowest since March 18.
Egypt and Algeria both called wheat import tenders on Monday
in what traders viewed as a response to lower prices.

While the renewed demand lent some support, offers in
Egypt's tender on Tuesday highlighted large supplies of
competitively priced Russian wheat.
"The northern hemisphere harvest is still going on and wheat
prices will remain under pressure," said Dennis Voznesenski, a
Commonwealth Bank analyst in Sydney.
Favorable harvest conditions in the U.S. Plains and
increased production forecasts for both the U.S. and Russian
harvests have weighed on the wheat market this month.
Corn and soybeans have been pressured by favorable early
growing conditions in the U.S. Midwest. However, the U.S.
Department of Agriculture's (USDA) 68% good/excellent rating for
both the U.S. corn and soybean crops in a report after Monday's
close was short of the slight improvement expected by analysts.
CBOT soybeans were up 0.3% at $10.43-1/4 a bushel
after setting another near four-year low.
CBOT corn added 0.9% to $4.07-3/4 a bushel but
remained close to its lowest since 2020.
Mixed demand indications have also curbed corn and soy
prices.
The U.S. soy crush declined in June and fell below most
trade estimates but was still the highest on record for the
sixth month of the year, according to National Oilseed
Processors Association (NOPA) data released on Monday.
