Toronto stocks were slightly higher Tuesday.

The energy sector was the main gainer in the session, followed by industrial services and materials, and offset primarily by process industries, the health services and tech services sectors.

Canada's S&P/TSX Composite Index was 0.13% higher at 20209.93 and the blue-chip S&P/TSX 60 rose 0.09% to 1210.90.

Roots shares were 1.4% lower at 2.86 Canadian dollars ($2.11) after reporting a widened loss in its second quarter as costs continue to bite into earnings because of rising costs and a more challenging economic climate.

Other market movers:

Soma Gold shares were 4.9% higher at C$0.64 after the company said it produced 3,154 gold-equivalent ounces in August, bringing it up to 21,878 ounces for the year. This is up from 16,219 ounces at the same point a year earlier. Soma said it is on track to reach its full-year guidance of 35,500 ounces.
