Shares of technology companies climbed amid optimism about the economic outlook.

Cvent said it has agreed to be acquired by an affiliate of private-equity funds managed by Blackstone at an enterprise value of about $4.6 billion.

Microsoft President Brad Smith said the company reached a deal with cloud gaming company Boosteroid on distributing "Call of Duty" videogames and expects more agreements to follow as the software giant pushes to convince regulators to approve its planned $75 billion acquisition of the videogame franchise's owner, Activision Blizzard.

Uber Technologies, Lyft and other companies scored a victory with a California court ruling that preserves their independent-contractor model in the state and could boost their efforts to maintain that model elsewhere.

A state appeals court said that workers should continue to be treated as independent contractors under a California ballot measure known as Proposition 22, though it asked that a clause which put restrictions on collective bargaining by workers be severed from it.
