“It has been absolutely transformational to be involved with Ideal Protein,” said Dr. Douglis. “I am very impressed by the science and education behind the protocol. In my experience, the Ideal Protein Protocol is an excellent weight management tool that provides robust initial weight loss followed by sustainable results. It is uniquely designed to promote the maintenance of a healthy weight. With 300 million obese people in the world, I am very passionate to be part of the movement to arrest the burgeoning epidemic.”

Douglis is a past president of the Montgomery County Medical Society as well as a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Texas Medical Association. He is a qualified principal investigator for FDA clinical trials, and has completed seven Phase 3 clinical trials.

Tim Callahan, President of Ideal Protein, said, “We are very fortunate to have Dr. Douglis on our medical advisory board. He is a passionate physician and a dynamic leader, and he brings new and valued perspectives to the table. His vast experience in clinical research and deep expertise on sleep apnea and obesity are significant assets. Dr. Douglis will certainly help us accelerate our mission to make a meaningful impact in the fight against obesity.”

Dr. Douglis continued, “There is a clear relationship between obesity and sleep disorders – we call this Syndrome Z, the fusion of metabolic syndrome and obstructive sleep apnea. In addition, sleep apnea increases the desire for sweet, fatty foods, perpetuating the cycle of obesity. We know that people with obstructive sleep apnea are three times more likely to have a stroke or heart attack, and seven times more likely to die from all causes. The best solution for obese patients with this condition is weight loss, but there have been very few tools available to help them achieve this. In my practice, I have found the Ideal Protein Protocol to be a very effective solution for this patient population.”

Douglis has been in private practice in Conroe, Texas since 1982. During that time, he has also served as Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Family Medicine at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and coauthored a chapter in one of the first sleep medicine textbooks, “Principles and Practice of Sleep Medicine.”

The Ideal Protein Medical Advisory Board contributes strategic guidance and advice to Ideal Protein on weight management, helping other healthcare practitioners and specialists improve health outcomes for patients with chronic illnesses associated with overweight and obesity.

Dr. Douglis joins Tran Tien Chanh, M.D., Ph.D.; Douglas W. Rothrock, M.D.; Linda Anegawa, M.S., M.D., F.A.C.P.; Kelly G. Bagnell, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.; Thomas C.
