Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has said the site of the PSNI station at Cushendall should be used for much-needed social housing.

Mr McMullan said;

'I have been informed by the PSNI's Causeway Coast and Glens district commander John Magill that Cushendall police station will be closing down.

'There is a chronic lack of social housing and opportunities to develop the economy in the Glens area. One of the difficulties in addressing this has been the lack of available sites.

'The site of the police station would be an ideal location for social housing or small business units for the area.

'The closure of the police station provides a unique opportunity to build social housing to help tackle the housing situation in the area.

'It could also be used for business units to give people in the local area an opportunity to start up a business and grow the local economy.

'I will be meeting with the PSNI and housing associations this week to discuss the potential this site offers for the benefit of the entire Glens community.'
