Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has said it is disappointing Enterprise Minister Jonathan Bell turned down a request for a meeting to discuss the creation of a taskforce for East Antrim.

Mr McMullan said;

'It is very disappointing that Enterprise Minister Jonathan Bell has refused my request for a meeting to discuss the need for urgent action to stimulate the economy of East Antrim.

'The recent news of the closure of Larne to Troon ferry service is the latest in a series of losses for the area.

'The East Antrim area has huge potential but needs a determined focus in order to make the most of the opportunities the area has, particularly in terms of tourism.

'I had written to Enterprise Minister Jonathan Bell asking for an urgent meeting to discuss the possibility of creating a taskforce to boost the economy of the East Antrim area.

'I received a reply from the minister stating he is unable to meet me at this stage. It is disappointing the minister is too busy to meet me to discuss helping the people of East Antrim.

'I have now submitted a written question asking the minister whether he will back my call to create a taskforce for the area which, working alongside the Mid and East Antrim Council, would help transform the area and provide opportunities for our young people.'
