A man who set his new motorcycle on fire after he was stopped by traffic police has been arrested for arson, said prosecutors in Songjiang District.

A suspect surnamed Jiang was rode his new motorcycle in the wrong direction at 8pm on December 18 last year.

The police who stopped him found he didn't have a license. He got extremely agitated when he was told he would be fined and his motorcycle would be seized, the prosecutors added.

He opened the fuel pipe and used his lighter to set it on fire. Police rushed to a nearby security guard's office to get a fire extinguisher and put out the blaze. Jiang was subdued at the scene, they said.
