RAD andNakina Systems have proven product interoperability for a major cable operator in one of the first real-world examples of Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), with software controlling the actual hardware deployment.

RAD is the industry leader in Service Assured Access solutions for service providers, and Nakina Systems is the leading provider of carrier grade management and network integrity solutions. The two companies are working together to help service providers significantly reduce the costs, time and complexities associated with extending services to new customers.

Their successful rollout at one of North America's largest cable telecommunications companies includes the 203A and 205A versions of RAD's ETX-2 Carrier Ethernet demarcation device working in conjunction with Nakina's NI-Director software to rapidly extend commercial services.

Assures Immediate, Successful Operation

With NI-Director preconfigured and in place, the service provider's installers can simply select an appropriate RAD CPE unit from available stock, plug it in at the customer premises, and be assured of immediate, successful operation. The NI-Director software detects the specific RAD device, fully configures the device and provisions the end-to-end service automatically.

For RAD Inc. President Uri Zilberman, this success story exemplifies a strong future for NFV with clear benefits to service providers. "Together with Nakina Systems, RAD can offer service provider customers the flexibility to maintain a multi-version inventory of service capable, MEF-compliant devices," he said. "Our joint solution frees installation and operations staff from implementing complex and costly device-specific configuration processes."

Mary O'Neill, Nakina CEO, explained, "At the time the service is designed, existing resources are fully configured and left in a service ready state. Virtual versions of CPE units that are not yet present are pre-provisioned. As each of the end points of the service is installed, NI-Director matches the physical device to a virtual resource that has been pre-provisioned and fully automates the commissioning and activation of the device in accordance with the service provider's standards."

RAD customers include operators and service providers such as CenturyLink, Verizon, Telus, Bharti Airtel, British Telecom, China Mobile, China Telecom, Claro, Deutsche Telekom/T-Mobile, Embratel, France Telecom/Orange, Hutchison, KDDI, KPN, SingTel, SoftBank, Telefónica, Telekom Austria, TeliaSonera, Telstra, and Vodafone.

About Nakina Systems

Nakina Systems provides a software NFV framework for next-generation networks - SDN, LTE, Ethernet, IMS, or Optical - with distributed functions and increased network complexity. Nakina has already developed solutions that enable service providers to introduce new services and grow networks more rapidly and with fewer outages by automating the discovery of network equipment, reconciling with inventory systems, auditing software in the network, configuration of network devices and centralizing management of network security.

Nakina software is now managing over 600,000 devices in Tier 1 service providers around the world and those deployments have tested the limits of scalability, resiliency, and adaptability to changing requirements. http://www.nakinasystems.com
