BRONX, N.Y., Jan. 03, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Pelham Parkway Vision Center offers their optometry services in a variety of languages. In addition to standard English, members of the staff and the optometrists speak Spanish, Albanian, Russian and Ukrainian. Located in the Bronx, their office serves a diverse clientele and providing care in the customer's native language is a benefit. The Bronx is home to the largest Spanish-speaking population in all of New York City with 46.3 percent of its residents speaking Spanish in the home. More than one-third of the Bronx's population is foreign-born which has increased more than 22 percent since the year 2000.

According to Dr. Oleg Lisitsyn of Pelham Parkway Vision Center, "We are proud to serve the residents of the Bronx and love to see the diversity of New York City's population come through our doors for vision services. We believe, that whenever possible, providing services in our patient's native language is a great benefit. It raises our level of care and helps them feel at home in our office which is our goal for each and every patient we serve. Our goal has always been to provide professional, personal care to each of our patients and our ability to communicate in several languages serves that goal."

Dr. Diana Ilyasova, an optometrist at Pelham Parkway Vision Center, agrees with her colleague. "When you can provide services in the patient's native language you get a sense of relief from the patient," she says. "As a provider you know that when you can communicate in their native language that you will be clearly understood.  So much of the doctor-patient relationship relies on clear lines of communication. If a patient does not fully understand your question, it is almost impossible for them to answer it completely and accurately. When we can provide an interpreter to assist, we know we are getting accurate information on which to base our care."

Pelham Parkway Vision Center offers a full line of optometry services including routine eye exams, diagnosis and management of eye diseases and treatment of pediatric eye disorders. Drs. Lisitsyn and Ilyasova provide advanced optometric services including the treatment of eye infections and diseases such as macular degeneration, cataracts, and glaucoma. They screen patients for early signs of ocular effects of common chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and autoimmune conditions.
