The minister told a news conference a "detailed discussion" had taken place with the International Monetary Fund on the sidelines of the climate conference in Geneva on Monday, where IMF officials had emphasized a need to take fiscal measures to meet the target.

These measures, he assured, will be "targeted" and will not affect the general population.

"They (IMF) think that we should take some fiscal measures, like if there are some un-budgeted subsidies," he said.

Dar said that the government has identified some of them, such as aid for exporters or farmers, adding: "we will do it but it wouldn't burden any common man, it will be very targeted and categorical."

The minister said that the items on the IMF agenda, such as those relating to the power sector and energy reforms, have also been narrowed down.
