Barinas.- In order to ensure the operability of its production units, Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA) through its affiliate PDVSA Agrícola, planted 180 hectares of sorghum in the state of Barinas, for the development of livestock activities of the Socialist Bovine Integral Chain (CIBOS).

The information was released by Eduardo Roa, regional coordinator of the state. He said that this fodder ensures animal feeding during the summer season in Barinas, and anticipates that small producers will be supplied with hay bales in the medium term.

This time, 20 hectares were consolidated in the production unit Las Palmas, 20 in El Coco, and 120 hectares in La Fe, all belonging to the state agriculture entity in the Rojas municipality. One of the features is that the crop is handled in two stages, one for 40 days and another 20, in order to compare between planting in rows and broadcast mode.

Mr. Roa said that the intention is to determine the amount of fodder per hectare for livestock management for both meat and milk. It is a pilot program to determine the yield and offer fresh or dry fodder for livestock farming.

'One of the main objectives of PDVSA Agrícola is to maintain high productivity in its production units, with better yields. It is a challenge that defines us as professionals, as producers, as an agrifood security company', said the regional coordinator of the affiliate.

Carlos Contreras, supervisor of Las Palmas, said that the premise is to spearhead agricultural production, seeking the best alternatives to optimize crops, 'we obtained excellent results in germination; we had no impact because of weeds among the threads. We are applying relevant controls; performance is above the historical average for the area'.

With these actions, the agroindustrial affiliate ensures the maximum efficiency of its production units, increasing yields with various forms of mechanized planting to generate high productivity and strengthen food sovereignty of the nation.
