THRUWAY AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES FUEL SYSTEM UPGRADES AT SERVICE AREAS ALONG THE THRUWAY

Credit Card Chip Readers to be Installed at Fuel Pumps at Six Services Areas Along the Thruway

The Thruway Authority today announced that upgrades to fuel service facilities on the Thruway (I-87 and I-90) are scheduled to take place beginning next week. The system upgrades allow fuel pumps to read credit card chips to further heighten security and protect motorists fueling up on the Thruway.

'The Thruway Authority is always looking for opportunities to install new technology along our roadway to benefit our motorists,' said Thruway Authority Acting Executive Director Bill Finch. 'The fuel pump upgrades at service areas along I-87 and I-90 will give credit card users a peace of mind while fueling up on the Thruway while ensuring that our facilities are utilizing state-of-the-art technology.'

The upgrades will be performed at service areas on the Thruway (I-87 and I-90) between I-87 exit 20 (Saugerties) and I-90 exit 27 (Amsterdam) beginning on Monday, January 16 until Tuesday, January 24, during which time fuel service will be temporarily suspended. The upgrades are scheduled during non-peak travel times to minimize impacts for motorists.
