Dr Christianne Glossop, Chief Veterinary Officer for Wales, discussed the current TB situation in Wales, as well as on a county-level, when she spoke at the NFU Cymru Ceredigion County Conference recently.

Members heard about the key changes within the regionalised TB Eradication Programme that were introduced in Wales from the October 1st. 2017and were provided with an update from Christianne Glossop on the targets that have been set by Welsh Government to eradicate the disease from Wales. .

The Chief Vet outlined the enhanced measures for tackling long-term persistent breakdowns that Welsh Government have introduced, which includes bespoke action plans for farms suffering long-term problems. These can include the removal of diseased badgers where there is conclusive evidence that badger activity is contributing to disease problems in the cattle herds.

NFU Cymru President, Stephen James also addressed Ceredigion members on a number of issues concerning the Union's work and priorities, including Brexit, bovine TB and NVZs.

NFU Cymru Ceredigion County Chairman, Aled Lewis said: 'I'd like to thank Christianne Glossop for taking the time to come and speak with us. Bovine TB is unquestionably one of the biggest challenges facing our Cattle industry and a TB breakdown on farm causes a huge amount of stress, both on farming businesses and farming families, the eradication of this disease is a goal that we share with the Welsh Government.

'It was also great to hear from Stephen James with an update and I would like to thank him for all the work he has done during his time as President. Finally, I would like to thank Huw Davies for all the work he put in as Ceredigion County Chairman for the last two years. I look forward to trying to fill his shoes during my time as County Chairman.'
