Joplin - Drivers can expect one-lane traffic and occasional traffic delays when a project to resurface nine state routes in Jasper and Newton counties begins the week of July 16, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Here's a look at the routes that will be resurfaced:

  • Missouri Route 66 - resurfacing driving lanes and shoulders, and adding rumble strips on westbound lanes and crossovers only between Jasper County Route P and the Missouri/Kansas state line.
  • Jasper County Route P - resurfacing driving lanes and shoulders, and adding rumble strips between Missouri Route 66 and the Missouri/Kansas state line.
  • Jasper County Route YY - resurfacing driving lanes and shoulders, and adding rumble strips between Missouri Route 171 and the Missouri/Kansas state line.
  • Jasper County Route Z - resurfacing driving lanes and shoulders, and adding rumble strips between Missouri Route 171 and Route P.
  • Jasper County Route JJ - resurfacing driving lanes and shoulders, and adding rumble strips between Route YY and Route P.
  • Missouri Route 43 - resurfacing driving lanes and shoulders, adding rumble strips and replacing guardrail between I-44 and Missouri Route 60 roundabout in Seneca in Newton County. Crews will work at night between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., Monday-Friday. All lanes will be open to traffic during daytime hours.
  • Missouri Route 59 - resurfacing driving lanes and shoulders between I-49 and Missouri Route 60 in Newton County.
  • Newton County Route V - resurfacing driving lanes and shoulders between I-49 and Missouri Route 59 in Diamond. Crews will work at night between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., Monday-Friday. All lanes will be open to traffic during daytime hours.
  • Newton County Route J - resurfacing driving lanes and shoulders, and adding rumble strips between Missouri Route 59 in Diamond and Missouri Route 37 in Wentworth. Crews will work at night between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., Monday-Friday. All lanes will be open to traffic during daytime hours.

In addition to resurfacing, guardrail will also be replaced in various locations.

Drivers can expect lane closings, pilot cars and flaggers. Drivers on side roads should wait for pilot cars before entering areas where resurfacing is being done from side roads.

Signs and message boards will alert drivers to the work zone.

Weather and/or scheduling delays will alter the work schedule.
